In the beginning, when God created the universe, the earth was formless and desolate. The raging ocean that covered everything was engulfed in total darkness, and the Spirit of God was moving over the water.
Then God commanded, “Let there be light”—and light appeared.
God was pleased with what he saw. Then he separated the light from the darkness, and he named the light “Day” and the darkness “Night.” Evening passed and morning came—that was the first day.

Psalm 137: A Lament of Israelites in Exile
By the rivers of Babylon we sat down;
there we wept when we remembered Zion.
On the willows near by
we hung up our harps.
Those who captured us told us to sing;
they told us to entertain them:
“Sing us a song about Zion.”

By the rivers of Babylon,那首歌节奏感非常强烈。

Song of Songs 3:
Asleep on my bed, night after night
I dreamed of the one I love;
I was looking for him, but couldn’t find him.
I went wandering through the city,
through its streets and alleys.
I looked for the one I love.
I looked, but couldn’t find him.

So Naomi said to her, “Ruth, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her god. Go back home with her.” But Ruth answered, “Don’t ask me to leave you! Let me go with you. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. Wherever you die, I will die, and that is where I will be buried. May the Lord’s worst punishment come upon me if I let anything but death separate me from you!”
When Naomi saw that Ruth was determined to go with her, she said nothing more.
They went on until they came to Bethlehem. When they arrived, the whole town became excited, and the women there exclaimed, “Is this really Naomi?”
“Don’t call me Naomi,” she answered; “call me Marah, because Almighty God has made my life bitter.

These are the words of the Philosopher, David’s son, who was king in Jerusalem.
It is useless, useless, said the Philosopher. Life is useless, all useless.
You spend your life working, laboring, and what do you have to show for it?
Generations come and generations go, but the world stays just the same.
The sun still rises, and it still goes down, going wearily back to where it must start all over again.
The wind blows south, the wind blows north—round and round and back again.
Every river flows into the sea, but the sea is not yet full. The water returns to where the rivers began, and starts all over again.
……

还有 Ecclesiastes 12:

So remember your Creator while you are still young, before those dismal days and years come when you will say, “I don’t enjoy life.”
That is when the light of the sun, the moon, and the stars will grow dim for you, and the rain clouds will never pass away.
Then your arms, that have protected you, will tremble, and your legs, now strong, will grow weak. Your teeth will be too few to chew your food, and your eyes too dim to see clearly.
……

How hard it is to find a capable wife! She is worth far more than jewels!
Her husband puts his confidence in her, and he will never be poor.
As long as she lives, she does him good and never harm.
She keeps herself busy making wool and linen cloth.
She brings home food from out-of-the-way places, as merchant ships do.
She gets up before daylight to prepare food for her family and to tell her servant women what to do.
She looks at land and buys it, and with money she has earned she plants a vineyard.
She is a hard worker, strong and industrious.
She knows the value of everything she makes, and works late into the night.
……Charm is deceptive and beauty disappears, but a woman who honors the Lord should be praised.
Give her credit for all she does. She deserves the respect of everyone.

Don’t take advantage of the poor just because you can; don’t take advantage of those who stand helpless in court.
The Lord will argue their case for them and threaten the life of anyone who threatens theirs.
Don’t make friends with people who have hot, violent tempers.
You might learn their habits and not be able to change.
Don’t promise to be responsible for someone else’s debts.
If you should be unable to pay, they will take away even your bed.

Are you wise enough to know the wisdom? Are your own interpretations / quotations slanted or not?

Pervert ;By the rivers of Babylon不错, 那些年的荷东迪士高也很好听 :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:, Brother Louie, Lambada, Colder than Ice 等等

So you read and interpreted this literally? You might need some introductions to help you understand what the Bible says.

What were the cities like at that time?

Water seeks its own level, but it strongly implies that we’re supposed to find “WATER SOURCES” — the directions of the universe, which God created for all human beings, have been indicated — I was lucky enough to pay a visit to the place in the upper reaches of the Jordan River where Jesus Christ was baptized and the Sea of Galilee (Note: The sea of Galilee actually is the largest freshwater lake in Israel, and the lowest freshwater lake on Earth. Amazingly, there’s schools of whitebait, which an Israeli teacher said to all of us were imported from China, quickly swimming near the surface of the water) where I measured different concentrations of dissolved oxygen (DO) at different water depths.

What do you mean?

the directions of the universe, which God created for all human beings, has been indicated.

Note: “In the beginning, when God created the universe…”

同道中人 :slightly_smiling_face:

I believe that the philosopher (the writer) only emphasized that life is useless, as in another sentence they said: “Our bodies will return to the dust of the earth, and the breath of life will go back to God, who gave it to us.” You don’t see heaven here, nor hell, but only DUST of the earth. God gave life to us, and He will take it back eventually. So the writer concluded: life is useless.

幸甚至哉~ :right_facing_fist:

one more song

I was dragging those heavy chains of doubt and fear
Then with the one word spoken the locks were broken
I laid my burdens down,Now I’m traveling light

Psalms

Chasing the wind, but to no avail.

These trees have been cut down people in that country planted for…
These trees people in that country planted for… have been cut down.
